Founded in 1630, Boston is one of the oldest cities in America. It was a central player in the American Revolution, a period that shaped the nation’s future. The city was home to some key events like the Boston Tea Party in 1773, when American colonists protested British taxes by dumping tea into Boston Harbor. This was one of the first big acts of defiance that led to the revolution.
Boston was also the site of the first shots of the Revolutionary War, fired during the Battles of Lexington and Concord in 1775.
